The Best Scarf Colors For You

What scarf colors look best on you?

You know which season you were born in and which season is your favorite, but do you know which season you are? Most people don’t, but through a process known as color analysis you can determine what season you are and thus what colors look best with your natural coloring.

Sounds great, right? Well instead of wasting more time, let’s get started!

Warm or Cool?
For this test you’ll need: a mirror, natural daylight, a white piece of paper and a no. 2 pencil (kidding).

All you need to do to determine if you’re warm or cool is stand in front of the mirror in natural lighting and place the piece of paper below your chin. Close your eyes for a couple seconds and then open them again.

When you opened your eyes did you notice the paper or your face first? If your face popped out at you first, you are considered cool. If you saw the paper first, you’re warm.

Warm – Spring or Autumn?
Now that you know you have warm undertones it’s time to figure out if you’re a spring or an autumn. To do this, we’re going to look at your hair color. If your hair color ranges from light blonde to a medium brown you’re a spring whereas if your hair is black, red or dark brown you’re considered an autumn.

Cool – Summer or Winter?
For you cool kids out there we’re going to follow the same process to determine if you’re a summer or winter. If your hair color ranges from light blonde to deep brown you’re a summer whereas if your hair is black, red, or dark brown you’re considered a winter.

Now that you know your season let’s find the best scarf colors for you! And while we’re at it, let’s check out the best sunglass frames for your skintone.

Celeb Style: Ellen Page in Inception

Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Cillian Murphy all in one movie? This has to be a dream and after seeing the movie, Inception, I’m wondering if it is… This blockbuster has everything you could ever ask for: action, suspense, beautiful people, romance, a premise that will blow your mind and cause you to question your own reality, and oh yeah – scarves!

Ellen Page plays a college student who acts as a Dream Architect, constructing various levels of dreams (trust me, it’ll make sense once you see the film) all the while, donning an impressive collection of scarves. The look is simple, elegant, Parisian, and I know you want in on it.

Get the look - Ellen Page's scarf from InceptionOne of Page’s costume changes includes a scarf I’ve been dreaming of since I saw the film. It’s subtle, classic, and classy. It’s a metallic square scarf. While I wouldn’t necessarily pair it with a striped top and tan pants, I would make it a staple piece in my wardrobe. And thanks to Affordable Scarves, this dream can become a reality.

The Paisley Square Scarf is a gorgeous and affordable alternative to Ellen’s Inception look. The paisley print dazzles, not unlike a vampire in the sunlight. Oops… I’m getting my movie references mixed up. My bad. The rich purple background contrasts beautifully with the silver metallic stripes and tan pattern. It’s 100% cotton and therefore 100% comfortable.

With this scarf in your collection it will make getting ready in the morning a snap, providing you all the more time to ponder the themes of this film, and believe me, you’ll need it!

Scarf Up That Handbag!

Celebrities with scarves on their purses

Is your handbag losing that edge? That burst of style that it once had? Do you envy celebrities like Heidi Montag, Jennifer Anniston or Eva Longoria Parker for their sense of style and fashion?

Well, if you envy Heidi for other reasons besides her purse, then I cannot help you…But if you do dig the above three’s bodacious bags then ladies, you have come to the right place!

Scarves are amazing accessories! Then can add a touch of color to an outfit, dress it up or dress it down and now they can even add a revitalized touch of life to your handbag!

That’s right! Scarfing up your handbag! If you’re looking for that extra oomph then grab a scarf! …Who would have thought that just a little touch of satin color could completely transform your handbag!

Here are some hints:

Stick to leather. If you’re adding some spicy satin scarves to your tote then make it a leather one. Some cloth and hemp purses with scarves appear unorganized and clash.

Go big with color. When adding a scarf to a handbag, go for color! You’re trying to add a bit of sass to your purse anyways, so why not add some spice and make your scarf, handbag and yourself stand out!

Satin and cotton are key. Scarves are made from all arrays of material…Cashmere, cotton, satin, wool, silk…So try to stick to airy materials. Satin and cotton are easy to tie and demonstrate color well. Plus, the last thing you want to do is tie your favorite, yet expensive, cashmere scarf around your purse and then later watch it fly away with the wind when it comes untied…

Do dare to add some color to your handbag. Hell add some crazy pattern even…But do keep it catered to you! Remember you’re adding some flare to your bag, so spice it up however you feel necessary!

New Merch’ Monday: Wave Crinkled Scarf

pink cotton scarf

quite neck-worthy

When it comes to textures, that which you put around your neck seems like it should have first dibs at the raddest option.  Conveniently, we have scarves for that.

The Wave Crinkled Scarf is of the raddest texture, making it quite neck-worthy.  The perfectly patterned wrinkles are confusingly permanent, taking the fabric from simply material to an actual item of clothing.

Available in white, coral, and turquoise, this soft scarf is built for variety–a perfect topper for a multitude of outfits.  And with its lightweight cotton material, it is easy to throw on with your monotones for an attractively carefree look.

The Wave is a medium-sized scarf, at nearly six feet long and two feet wide.  Enough to cover you up and be present, but not big enough to weigh a girl down.  That’s what handbags are for.

DIY: Add Fringe to Your Scarf

Some of us can’t just accept things as they are; instead, we see the greater potential. Whether we want to fix up an old house, a boyfriend or an accessory, we can’t wait to get to work. So if you find yourself unsatisfied with a scarf of yours, why not snazz it up and make it an original by adding some fringe?

  1. Choose a cotton or silk scarf. These will be easier to unravel.
  2. Decide how long you’d like your fringe to be and measure it out on the scarf, marking it with tailor’s chalk. Do this at both ends of the scarf.
  3. Make a tiny cut at the bottom corner of the scarf and grab the thread that runs across the scarf, not up and down the scarf.
  4. Pull this thread to remove it from the scarf, unraveling the threads running in the opposite direction.
  5. Continue this process until you reach the mark you made.
  6. Group the fringe into small sections and tie them into knots.
  7. Don’t forget to tie to last piece of excess thread in a knot so the scarf doesn’t continue to unravel.
  8. Wrap it around your neck and you’re ready to go.

Don’t consider yourself a crafty person? Why not check out our collection of fringe-featured scarves!

Inside the Photo Studio: 6 Scarves, 6 Looks, 6 Days of Travel; Sara Goes to Ireland (Part 3)

I’m back with the last post of my amazing, scarf-filled Irish adventure.  Missed part 1 and 2?  Catch up.

Next stop, castle life.

Dingle has a large loop of scenery.  They call it the “Ring of Dingle”.  I called it the “Ringle”.  It’s a beautiful drive through Dingle where you can stop and see cliffs, beehive houses, and pottery shops.  It makes for a relaxing day of exploration and for that reason, I dressed myself in jeans and a t-shirt.  But fear not, I added the Avery Ombré Scarf and attached it with a skinny belt to bring life to my look just in time for high tea at the Ballyseede Castle in Tralee.  Later when it got chilly, I wrapped the Avery around my neck for warmth.  So multifunctional!

Last stop, Shannon.

Our last day in Ireland was laid back.  We enjoyed lunch, shopping, and spending time at a farmhouse.  I decided that the Diane Ruffle Scarf would be the best accessory to help me go out with a bang.  I wrapped the Diane loosely around my neck and paired it with a simple black shirt and jeans.  I got so many compliments on my “pretty red scarf” and loved its vibrant color on a day that was so bright and blue.

My trip to Ireland was amazing…and wearing Affordable Scarves everyday was a great decision.  I was comfortable, put-together, and accessorized to a T.  I was able to look fashionable, enjoy a new culture, and photograph the entire experience all at the same time.

Photographers Tip: When photographing beautiful countryside like that in Ireland, grab a wide angle lens to help capture a wider landscape.  You won’t regret it.

Inside the Photo Studio: 6 Scarves, 6 Looks, 6 Days of Travel; Sara Goes to Ireland (Part 2)

I’m back with more pictures to share from my scarftastic Irish adventure.  If you missed part one, catch up.

Next stop, Dingle.

The trip to Dingle from Kinsale was filled with adventure.  We saw hills, beaches, an Irish car crash, and hopped on a fairy ride for a two hour detour.  It was a day of excitement, but it was also a long day in the car.  Thankfully, I brought my Glam Rock Necklace Scarf to help liven up my boring, albeit, comfortable travel clothes.  This scarf is perfect for traveling…in car or on boat.  And thankfully it’s lightweight so I was able to enjoy a sunny and stylish day aboard the Harbour Queen.

The next day we spent exploring Dingle.

Dingle is a beautiful town.  There’s so much to explore…and what better way to do it than by horseback.  In true jockey fashion (sarcasm), I wrapped my Cara Lightweight Pashmina around my waist, tied it in the back, and paired with a jacket.  This look was very comfortable while we were riding and it transitioned easily to a look suitable for a night on the Dingle town.

Come back tomorrow for the third and final part of my Irish adventures.

Inside the Photo Studio: 6 Scarves, 6 Looks, 6 Days of Travel; Sara Goes to Ireland

Scarves are an ideal travel companion.  They’re compact, they keep you warm, and they always make you look good.  For these reasons and more, I filled my suitcase to the brim with Affordable Scarves while packing for a quick trip to Ireland.  And because I’m a photographer, I vowed that I’d document my six days of travel with my six scarves.

And so I was off to the lands of my ancestors with camera in hand and Affordable Scarf around neck.

Here is part 1 of 3…

First stop, Dublin.

I arrived to Dublin in my Solid Colored Pashmina ready to see the sites.  This scarf was perfect on the long plane ride.  Not only was it comfortable, but it doubled as my blanket and kept me warm for the flight across the big pond.

The next day we traveled to Kinsale and stopped by the Blarney Castle on the way.

Our day at the Blarney Castle was dreary and cold, but I was determined to pucker up to that Blarney Stone.  Luckily, my Erica Colorblock Scarf was there to help keep me warm…and fashionable, of course.  I knotted this scarf and paired it with a simple jacket for a casual, yet put-together look.

Come back tomorrow for part two.

Celeb Style: Kim Kardashian

Whether she’s modeling, acting, or dancing with the stars, it’s undeniable that Kim Kardashian always looks good. She always seems to choose the right accessories (especially scarves) to complement an outfit. Our friends at KimKardashianWeb believe that “this demonstrates her interest and enthusiasm for fashion because every little thing down to the accessories seems like important and deciding element of what Kim chooses to wear… Kim’s fashion sense portrays the modern, fashion forward business woman and for the right occasion. She certainly embraces a glamorous aspect in her style, in an elegant and often striking way.” Women across America are constantly trying to copy her style but keeping up with the Kardashians isn’t an easy feat. Until now…

Black Leopard Print Scarf from Affordable Scarves

Meet the black Leopard Print Scarf from Affordable Scarves. It’s fine, fresh, fierce, and if you look closely, maybe even familiar. That’s because Miss Kardashian herself has been spotted around town in a scarf that looks eerily similar.

Kim Kardashian Leopard Print Scarf

Kim paired her leopard print scarf with a pair of oversized shades to complement her black-on-black ensemble. It sounds easy, almost too easy, and it certainly looks good. All you need is the perfect leopard print scarf and who knows, maybe it’ll be you who everyone is trying to keep up with.
