Red:

A red lady is strong and passionate, she wants what she wants, when she wants, where she wants. She is competitive and courageous; she’s always the first person people pick on their team. She’s never scared to pursue her dreams and goals, and she makes happiness and love the major priorities of her life. A red girl sings in the shower, eats chocolate every day, and takes sugar with her morning coffee. She always makes sure that her loved ones know they are loved, and her enthusiasm for life is contagious.

Orange:

Just as there’s no other word in the English language that rhymes with orange, there is no one quite like an orange girl. She’s warm, optimistic, and extroverted– she’s the daring girl who everyone loves to be around. She is assertive instead of aggressive; an orange girl maintains an air of light-heartedness wherever she goes. (She adores loud concerts and spicy salsa.) The orange girl is a social butterfly who feels energized by all types of people. She knows how to expose her inner wild child while maintaining the respect and dignity she deserves.

The yellow girl is powerful and strong. She loves to take on new challenges, all while keeping that cheery disposition and reliability everyone loves about her.

Like a scoop of sorbet, a lime lady is smooth, tangy, and oh-so-sweet. She’s strong-willed, enthusiastic, and very goal-oriented, which makes her the perfect party host or team leader.
Green:

For Kermit, it might not be easy being green, but for the strong green gal, she can endure and rise above any curve ball thrown her way. Like mother nature, she is naturally beautiful, an animal lover, and doesn’t surround herself with materialistic things or thoughts. The green gal is ambitious and carefree: She thrives in a productive, soothing environment (and loves naps and bubble baths:) ). Her friends and family appreciate her stability, harmony, and ability to make everyone feel secure and loved no matter what.

Turquoise:

A turquoise girl is calm and cool on the exterior, but on the inside she’s a creative dreamer with her eyes on the future. Whether she daydreams about winning the state championship swim meet, or earning the coveted corner office, a turquoise girl has her personal goals outlined and she knows what must be done to achieve them. A turquoise girl is a great leader, she’s never labeled “Seniorita Bossypants” and she never rules with an iron fist. Instead, she lets her instinctive influence wash over everyone to help them become the best person they can be.

A blue gal is reliable and and steady, just like the ocean tides. She is a great friend to all because she is so dependable and trustworthy — she hates to cause trouble and is sensitive to the needs of others. A blue girl loves direction and order, and she can’t help but cry during those sad Lifetime movies. Her favorite vacation spot? The ocean, of course!

Purple:

Although she is not literally Princess Kate, a purple girl is royal on the inside. She’s a multi-tasker who has an aura of intrigue, mystery, creativity, and individuality. A modern Holly Golightly, a purple girl knows that being happy is a way of being wise. With her spunk-yet-refined attitude, a purple girl understands how to stand above the crowd while remaining classic and classy at the same time.

Pink:

A pink lady is the epitome of femininity and fabulousness. Her dainty-sweet nature is reflected in her style: ruffles, bows, hearts, and glittery-goodness. Her adorable, charming attitude makes friends for life and leaves everyone she encounters tickled pink. The pink lady is the queen of loyalty, harmony, and innocence, making her the go-to gal for long, heartfelt talks or a mani/pedi outing with the girls. And when her flirty, romantic side surfaces, one bat of those lashes always seems to steal a few hearts.

It’s another crafty day in the Affordable Scarves office! I had some pieces of scarf leftover from our DIY scarf flats project, so I decided to make a structured headband out of them. I love the look of the flowy head scarves that trail down your shoulder, but I can never get them to stay on properly. Sticking a plastic headband inside gives some support, and I know it’s not going anywhere.

Let’s start crafting!

Step 1: Gather your supplies

glue gun, scarf scraps, headband, scissors.

Cut a strip of scarf that’s wide enough to cover your headband, and long enough to be able to drape over your shoulder (if that’s the look you’re going for).

Step 2: Get to gluing!

Start by gluing the scarf to one side of the headband. Apply the glue to the underside of the headband, so you can’t see the edges when you’re wearing it. Repeat the process on the other side. The scarf should look like it’s wrapped around the headband, with no edges showing.

Step 3: Clean up extra bits

Snip away the edges left over after you’ve secured the scarf to the headband. You may need to singe the edges of the scarf to make sure they don’t fray. I had to that with this scarf.

Step 4: Wear proudly!

Such an easy DIY project! And now I have a headband that matches my shoes.

I hate needles. Absolutely terrified. I’m so scared of them, when I found out I needed a round of vaccines before entering college, I went out and got a tattoo to try and overcome my fears so I wouldn’t be a convulsing, blubbering mess at the doctors office. All that really did was get me addicted to ink, and the thought of a hypodermic needle still terrifies me.

So how does that relate to second-day hair? Since the mere thought of giving blood makes me weak in the knees, I feel like I have to compensate somewhere. I do that by donating my hair. Since I was little, I’ve received compliments on the color (it’s natural!), and I love giving away something so precious. But donating hair is much more time consuming (I’m talking 5-6 years of growth) than giving blood, and I’m doing all I can to speed up the process. Similar to Sarah’s reasons, I’ve cut back on the washings to improve the health and overall growth of my locks.

I have baby fine strands that I normally wash every day. Until I researched it, I had no idea that the oils I was producing were actually good for my hair. It’s taken a lot of getting used to, but I’ve embraced the second-day hairstyles I’ve picked up. One of my favorites is a classic, go-to high ponytail.

The style isn’t that complex. I sprayed dry shampoo on my roots then combed through. I gathered a ponytail near my crown and secured, then I used a tiny bit of hairspray to control a few fly-aways. Like Sarah (and the rest of the Affordable Scarves girls), I love a soft, silk scarf, so I tied one around my ponytail for a little splash of color. I was kind of weary about it first– it looks slightly cheerleader-ish. But as the day went on, I could reach up and touch the soft scarf, and it brought an instant feeling of pretty! You can get the scarf here.

And in case you were wondering, Sarah’s wedding was gorgeous! Check out her sneak peak photos, from Sara and Mallary Photography. :)

If you are also interested in the gift of hair donation, I strongly urge you to visit Locks of Love. Sending away those ten inches of hair was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made, and I can’t wait to do it again. Happy growing!

One trend to keep an eye on this fall is ponchos. They’re so versatile: you can dress them up with accessories like scarves and belts, or you can wear them as they come. Another benefit to ponchos being versatile is that you can easily make your own. Any spare fabric around the house, whether it be an old tablecloth, spare fabric bits, even old scarves, can be turned in a fabulous boho-chic style poncho.

Inspired by the gorgeous DIY scarf poncho from Tiffany over at A Reason to be Fabulous, we set out to make our own DIY poncho out of one of our leopard print wraps.

Tiffany's DIY scarf poncho

Though your scarf doesn’t have to be square in shape, it will make the poncho turn out more even. You can either cut your scarf to make a square, or fold your scarf in half to form a square, and sew up the loose ends.

With your scarf in square form, fold one end to the other to make a triangle, then repeat to make another triangle. Cut a small hole in the top, opposite of the loose ends. Tiffany suggests, “cut smaller than you think you’ll need, because the hole will inevitably still come out larger than necessary.”

Steps 1 through 3

All that’s left to do is unfold your new homemade poncho and wear it! Accessorize like Tiffany with a skinny belt, or come up with something creative ideas of your own. Maybe a scarf belt over a scarf poncho?

AffordableScarves.com's Sarah modeling the new DIY scarf poncho

With a star-studded cast that also includes Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kurt Fuller and Mimi Kennedy, “Midnight In Paris” has been reported as Woody’s highest grossing film to date. Adrien makes a cameo as the artist Salvador Dalí.

Currently, imdb says Adrien is “in production” for “Waco,” about the Waco controversy in 1993, but Desi Hits! suggests that he might also have a new collab in the works. Writer Neha Bhatt reports that Adrien and actor/producer Saif Ali Khan “bonded at the Cannes film festival this year” and “met again in Paris [in June]…to attend a party hosted by an international watch brand.”

A supposedly reliable, anonymous source says “the two had an intellectual discussion on Indian and international films” and want to make a film that Saif would produce. No word on where that brainchild is headed but here’s a photo of Adrien back in May for a Memorial Day get-together.

It still might be ninety degrees outside but it’s not too early to start thinking about your fall wardobe! Check out our version of Adrien’s plaid pashmina today.

Vanessa Hudgens may be baby-faced but she is far from a child. Just observe how grown up this starlet looks in her most recent Candie’s shoot. In this photo she holds a mustache mug on a sunken couch wearing jeans and a warm caramel jacket.

With previews for the Candie’s Fall 2011 Back-to-School collection, each ad also includes a Candie’s life philosophy, such as “Candie’s girls never take life too seriously” and “Candie’s girls never forget to treat themselves.”

Who are Vanessa’s fashion heroes? According to People.com, she admires Bianca Jagger, Cher, Miley Cyrus, the Olsen Twins, Ashley Tisdale and Blake Lively to name a few. An interesting mix, but not so surprising considering how often Vanessa raves about ‘60s and ‘70s looks and her love for ladies who “play with fashion and have fun with it!”

Vanessa is also breaking away from her cutesy “High School Musical” image with films like action-drama “Sucker Punch” and the new indie flick she has lined up for 2012: “Gimme Shelter,” directed by Ron Krauss.

According to MovieWeb.com, “Gimme Shelter” will feature Vanessa as “a pregnant teen who becomes homeless after fleeing from her abusive mother.” She seeks out her biological father for refuge only for him to pressure her to have an abortion. She refuses and takes once again to the streets. In another article about the project on ComingSoon.net, a casting call for Vanessa’s part says she is “eventually taken under the wing of Father McCarthy, the chaplain of the local hospital after almost getting herself killed.”

Skeptics aside, this new drama could be Vanessa’s big break! But dressing like an A-list actress in the meantime does not hurt. Here is an example of Vanessa looking Oscar-worthy in a gray pashmina scarf and brown jacket.

In love with the scarf but know pashmina is not in season? Check out our gray two-tone linen scarf! Light for easy summer wear, this scarf is also available in Ocean Blue and Rose Red to add some flare to any outfit.

As if the Kardashians don’t have enough on their plate, their small fights on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” keep getting in the way of family time. On a recent show during the new season, Kim questions why Khloe still has photos in her bedroom of Kim’s ex-boyfriends. Not just one, but two, of the frames hold pictures of Kim’s last flames.

Granted she and Kris Humphries have only been together for a short period of time, Kim still takes offense to her ex’s faces being in Khloe’s room. Only Kim knows how she feels about Kris. Khloe doesn’t want to know because she’s used to having to get to know one after the other. You think this foreshadows the end of her and Kris? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, but in the meantime, the Kardashians must keep from killing one another. This time, Khloe makes peace by throwing the photos, frames and all, in the trash can, breaking them.

Later, Khloe apologizes to Kim and promises to give Kris a chance, but little does Kim know, it’s only to make peace, and not because Khloe wants to accept Kris into their circle. The close-knit family always finds a way of reconciling their differences. We know they always do it in style, too! Kim’s scarf and jacket ensemble highlight her slick ponytail style by making her face pop. The pairing of the black scarf with the tan jacket is a way to keep your colors guessing!

Jennifer Aniston is always in competition with Angelina Jolie because of her connection to Brad Pitt. E!Online’s “Bitch Stole My Look” compared both divas wearing warm-colored dresses, but at two separate events. Even if Jen would rather not be compared to Jolie, she has to weather the consequences of being Brad’s ex (a burden I”m sure many would take!).

Whether in constant competition with Angelina, or the next beautiful woman on the red carpet, Jennifer proves she is capable of staying at the top. She will be awarded the “Decade of Hotness Award” at Spike T.V. annual “Guys Choice” celebration on June 10. The recognition is a huge honor! The other women who have been chosen for the awards are Halle Berry and Charlize Theron.

Jen is known for her perfect body, perfect hair, and perfect smile. I don’t see how she does it! Not only has she been hot for over a decade, her fashion sense has also been among the most talked about. Summer has brought about some awesome new fashion trends for the Jennifer Aniston in you!

Scarves are not just worn for winter anymore. They are now in style for the summer months as well! Jennifer Aniston sports a neutral scarf paired with a white T-shirt, jeans, and tan wedges. The look is casual, but sexy and very stylish. You can mix and match a white T with a neutral colored scarf like Jen, or you can add some color with a patterned scarf. Start your summer off with a fresh fashion trend. Lightweight and stylish, these scarves are going fast! Duplicate the look with one of our scarves!

Going for the neutral look like Jen? Try our grey scarf!
