Scarf Style Swoon: Kristine of Kristine or Polly

Scarves Dot Net Style Guide Blogger

Over the past few months, we’ve asked our favorite fashion bloggers to knot, twist, tie, loop, twirl, drape, braid, and style our very own scarves. Along the way, we’ve chatted with each gorgeous gal, asking her questions about her life, her closet, and her loves. The result? A Scarf Style Guide  featuring fabulous scarf looks styled by real life ladies.

We love how she mixes prints and girly touches for a completely enviable look from head to toe. SDN: Best fashion advice your mom ever gave you?

Kristine: Always make sure everything fits. Seems basic, but it really does make quite a difference!

SDN: If you were on a deserted island and could only take one thing from your closet, what would it be?

Kristine: Oh boy, I really don’t think anything in my closet would be too functional on a deserted island! Does my wedding ring count?

SDN: If you could brunch with any blogger, who would it be and why?

Kristine: I really like Kendi of Kendi Everyday. She seems so down to earth and real.

SDN: Biggest fashion faux pas?

Kristine: I’m guilty of wearing heels that are too high — so high that I looked awkward walking. Nowadays I wear mostly flats. Oh, how things change!

SDN: Which scarf knot from The Knot Library fits your style the best?

Kristine: I usually tie my scarves in the style of Muffler II. I like styling scarves so that they have a bit of volume.

Scarf Style: Kinsey of Sincerely Kinsey

Our next style spotlight is Kinsey of Sincerely, Kinsey. This gorgeous, artsy Midwest gal loves photography, DIYs, and bohemian-inspired style. From breezy dyed tops to effortless fringed booties, Kinsey certainly knows a thing or two about chic summer style. See how she wore our lovely Mya Tribal Scarf not one, but FOUR different ways, and read her answers to our questions below:

SDN: Best fashion advice your mom ever gave you?

Kinsey: My mom never gave me any fashion advice — something I am so thankful for. She always encouraged us to be who we wanted to be, not who everyone else wanted us to. If we liked it, we wore it! It didn’t have to match perfectly or be a current trend; she just let us be ourselves.

SDN: Which scarf knot from The Knot Library fits your style the best?

Kinsey: The Scarf Bustier!

Kinsey of Sincerely Kinsey: 4 Ways to Style a Summer Scarf

Four Ways to Style a Summer Scarf

  • Strap: When the weather gets sweltering this season, give your neck a break and loop your scarf around your purse strap like Kinsey.
  • Belt: Jazz up your jean shorts by knotting your scarf in different places and pulling it through your belt loops.
  • Headband: We love the retro look of a scarf headband at the pool or beach (plus, it keeps your scalp from getting burned)!
  • Loop: For breezier summer days (or to add some character to a simple tank), loop a scarf around your neck and be on your way!

For detailed instructions on how Kinsey pulled off each look, visit her post hereFor even more ways to tie the Mya, see how we styled her for spring, too!

How to Make a Constellation Scarf

How to Make a Constellation Scarf DIY

When I was in elementary school, we had this amazing thing called “Space Lab.” This gigantic, inflatable planetarium would sit in our gym for a week, and all of the classes took turns going in to learn about galaxies, constellations, and stars. Since then, I’ve always been inspired by space. Since I don’t have the math + science knowledge to do anything real with space, I’ve got quite a collection of space-inspired clothing. ;) (Galaxy scarf, galaxy dress, constellation cardigan – the list goes on and on.)

How to Make a Constellation Scarf DIY

To make a constellation scarf, you need:

-A black infinity scarf like the Dylan
-White embroidery floss
-Heat set rhinestones or silver beads (for the stars!)

Step 1

To begin, I looked at my little star chart and made running stitch outlines of each of the constellations. It’s just like drawing, but with a needle and thread. :)

Step 2

Then, I used some crystals and a heat setting tool to add the stars. You can also stitch little beads in place of the stars, but I think the heat setting tool is really fun.

And that’s it!

I wore this scarf on a little Sunday afternoon stroll around New York to get groceries, finish tiny errands, and smell the spring flowers in the park. I love that even though it’s dark in color, it’s a lightweight scarf with an awesome design that I can wear year-round!
