Fall & Winter 2013 Trend Watch: Scarves

While there are basic fall and winter staples that carry over from year to year (think boots, jackets, scarves, etc.) changing trends affect how we style them. Fortunately for those who have grown bored with the typical fall looks, this season is bringing some exciting new trends to the table. Regardless of your personal style, aspects of these trends can easily be incorporated into your autumn ensembles for a fresh take on, well, y-o-u!

One easy way to do that? New scarves! Check out the four hottest trends of Fall/Winter 2013 and the scarves that can help you dress to perfection this season.

Luck Be a Lady

This trend pays homage to feminine and classic 1940s inspiration. With dressier pieces as the focus, Luck Be a Lady is definitely a trend to try for the office! Our go-to’s include pencil dresses, swing skirts, and perfectly tailored coats.

When choosing scarves to achieve this look, think darker colors such as navy, emerald, jewel tones, and neutrals such as tan and gray. Prints such as polka dots are a perfect match, much like this Eloise Polka Dot Scarf, as well as tweed, silk, herringbone, velvet, and fur. The Nadine Faux Fur Loop Scarf makes for an adorable way to show your ladylike side, don’t you agree dahhling? ;)

Grunge, Punk, Rock!

This is a much-anticipated trend for Fall 2013 with an edgy and tough appearance — and a much-needed break from the typical military trend of seasons past. While this trend is surely one to save for the weekend, there are ways to pull elements of the punk trend into professional looks, too. Think bright, loud colors such as neon, cobalt, mustard, and red. Metallic accents such as chains, studs, rhinestones, and jewels will be a must, as will animal print, leather, fringe, faux exotic skins, and your basic black. The Meredith Scarf and the Marissa Scarf are perfect examples of ways to add a little rock ‘n’ roll to your cold-weather style!

Co-Ed Chic

Just about as classic as it gets when thinking of fall fashion, this trend ties together a preppy, nerdy style with pieces such as plaid skirts, trench jackets, chunky sweaters, and blazers. Think prints such as plaid, argyle, and tweed, with thick knit and flannel textures in neutrals and classic autumnal colors such as burgundy, emerald, tan, and mustard. The Lena Houndstooth Infinity Scarf and the  Finn Plaid Circle Scarf can help you implement the Co-ed Chic trend without looking like a schoolgirl.

Athletic Aesthetics

This futuristic, menswear-inspired trend brings angular lines and beautiful movement to otherwise fitted pieces. When putting together looks fitting within this structured trend, consider monochromatic pieces, black, cloudy grays, cobalt blue, and thicker fabrics typically reserved for menswear including leather, suede, tweed, and quilting. The Patti Solid Color Pashmina and the Andie Striped Loop Scarf are two styles that can add hints of the athletic look and provide warmth and coverage as the temperatures drop.
