materials needed to make DIY two-toned cup

What You’ll Need:

  • Cups (These simple mock wine glasses are what we used.)

  • Paint (This “Pure Gold Folk Art” acrylic paint works great.)

  • Small bowl
  • Wax paper (We substituted aluminum foil, but we still recommend using wax paper. The paint from the cups stuck to the aluminum, making them hard to pull off after drying.)

How-To:

Step One: Pour the paint into a small bowl. Keep in mind that the bowl must be wide enough for the base of the glass, but not so wide that the paint flattens out and you lose depth. You want the paint to be about 1-2 inches deep, depending on how high you’d like the paint to be on the stems of your glasses.

Step Two: Dip the base of your glass in the paint. Watch for bubbles!

Step Three: Bring your glass out of the paint slowly, allowing the excess paint to drip back into the bowl. Also, swivel your wrist to ensure the base is covered evenly and there are no streaks on the cups.

Step Four: Set the glass base-down on wax paper.

Step Five: Let them dry overnight. The next day, when you pull them off, the very bottom of the cups may be wet. Get a fresh piece of wax paper and set the cups upside down to allow the bottom to dry.
