4 Scarf Decorations for your Dorm Room

As you head off to college and enter your dorm room for the first time, you may find that it just doesn’t feel like home … yet. Decorating your space to suit your personal style is an important step in getting comfortable and making it your own (while still keeping your roommates in mind). Of course, you are a gal on a budget, we’ve all been there. To make things simple, we put together a few of our favorite ways you can add some pizzazz to your space using your best accessory — scarves!

Scarf Curtains

How fun are these scarf curtains via Design Sponge? With a few colorful scarves and simple sewing skills, you can create these great window treatments. Simply choose the colors or patterns you like, sew them into panels of the desired length, and sew a few loops at the top to hang them on your curtain rod. How easy is that?!

Scarf Headboard

Dorm rooms are small. Unfortunately, your oversized (and super comfy) bed from home probably isn’t making the trip with you. A simple scarf headboard (like the one above via Blue Velvet Chair) is a great way to spruce up a simple bed or futon. Simply take small, square scarves and either glue them to a larger piece of cloth with fabric glue, or sew them together and hang at the head of your bed. You could even frame each one and hang them, slightly spaced, for an extra chic look.

Scarf Wall Art

Are the walls looking a little too bare for your liking? Create some wall art like these cute hangings via Mississippi College! Cut scarves into the shape of a decorative frame, or set them into embroidery hoops to add a splash of color and vibrancy. Choose your favorite colors or patterns, switch them out as the seasons change, or opt for the obvious choice and implement your school colors!

Keep It Simple

Not the crafty type? Keep it simple and try out these easy ideas. Loop scarves around your headboard, tie one into a bow around a lamp shade (like this idea via The Baltimore Sun), drape them around door knobs, or even use them as curtain tiebacks. The sky’s the limit!

Use your creativity and create your own fun looks!
