DIY Printed Scarf

Like the other gals of, I am obsessed with Pinterest! I can’t tell you how many recipes I’ve whipped up, crafts I’ve made, and pictures of cats I’ve pinned. So when I saw this DIY scarf tutorial, I knew I had to do it!

the inspiration

Gather your supplies:

  • light-colored scarf — this one would work well.
  • fabric marker
  • cardboard to place the scarf on. No messes here!
  • quotes!

I got a list of my favorite Andy Warhol quotes and began. I started writing (in my best Julia Warhola script) around the edges of the scarf and worked my way in.

The scarf I used was on the crinkly side, which made it a little harder to write on, but not impossible. I didn’t sketch out my letters or anything fancy, I just got to writing!

A few hours later (it took a little longer than I expected, I blame the crinkles.) I was finished, and my scarf was ready to wear!

I even took it out and about on the town:

I’m so happy with how it turned out! My text isn’t as big as the text in the inspiration, but I got to fit in more quotes. I’ll definitely be sure to wear this next time I’m at The Warhol in Pittsburgh.

IF I don’t have a scarf and want my students to make it from cloth, what cloth would I get? I love this idea
